The earthen materials that we use to build our floors are sustainable. Rather than producing our materials in a factory and transmitting carbon during transportation, we utilize materials right next to our customer’s homes. To create the foundation of our floor, we utilize nearby soil and gravel. The sand we use comes from rivers and roadsides. All of these materials can generally be sourced within 1km of our customer’s homes. The accessibility of these materials lessen the overall cost. In addition, it allows us to protect the environment as we satiate the demand for sanitary housing.
The families that we work with drive tremendous demand for sanitary housing. How we address such demand will have an exigent impact on climate change and the global environment. As incomes slowly rise alongside housing needs, families are using unsustainable materials, like concrete, to construct their homes. Concrete is already responsible for 8% of global carbon emissions and creates tremendous waste. With more than half of the global population growth between now and 2050 expected to occur in Africa, creating a sustainable housing industry is imperative to reducing climate change.
